Cirris Roots
Over thirty years ago, Marlin Shelley had grown tired of cables failing in his dot-matrix printers. He wanted a way to guarantee that cables functioned before connecting them. Marlin braided wires together and connected them to a box. He named his invention the Signature 1000 Cable Tester. When Marlin plugged his dot-matrix printer cables into the Signature 1000, the cable tester confirmed whether the cables would work or not.

Word spread of Marlin’s invention and soon other companies wanted cable testers. So Marlin built more Signature 1000s. He left the printer industry and started selling his cable testers. He called his business “Cirris Systems Corp.” and thirty years later Cirris still builds cable testers.

Now as an employee-owned company, Cirris still undertakes Marlin Shelley’s goal of guaranteeing quality cable and harness assemblies. Since the Signature 1000 in 1984 to the Easy-Wire™ CH2 today, Cirris has played a role in ensuring the progression of technology.
