We all know this news: global climate change, rise in earth temperature, greenhouse gases, the Kyoto Protocol, the reports of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). We know that you – the citizens of Willich – wish that more should be done for climate-friendly energy generation. The European Energy Award is an incentive to keep committed to environmental protection in the future. Your wish is our endeavor. In numerous discussions between Stadtwerke Willich GmbH, Volksbank Mönchengladbach and the property company of the city of Willich, it was considered how one can become ecologically involved in Willich.

A result that is impressive: on April 24th, 2009 the Bürger Solar Willich cooperative was founded, in which many citizens from the region took part. In particular, Bürger Solar Willich eG operates photovoltaic systems on communal roofs. To ensure planning security, these are rented for a period of 20 years.
