The very widespread IEC certificate, which practically every solar module can show today, is of little informative value. The requirements of IEC 61215 for crystalline solar modules are so low that they do not represent a serious hurdle for a module manufacturer. Another drawback is the lack of practical relevance: the various load tests that are supposed to produce signs of aging are carried out on different units of the module type to be tested – in reality, however, each module is exposed to all stresses such as UV radiation, temperature cycles or moisture. In addition, new findings from research are only included in the certification after a long period of time due to the system. A current example here is the degradation of PERC modules.
