SONOSCAN LEADERSHIP
Sonoscan is the most trusted authority on the application of Acoustic Microscopy, also known as Acoustic Micro Imaging (AMI) technology for nondestructive internal inspection and analysis.
Sonoscan’s C-SAM acoustic microscopes are recognized as the benchmark for accuracy, and through our SonoLab® division, you’ll benefit from the unmatched expertise of our dedicated acoustic applications engineers. Our engineers represent the leading minds in AMI and regularly receive industry recognition and awards, including the prestigious IEEE Rayleigh Award.
Data Accuracy
Sonoscan’s Acoustic Micro Imaging technology collects the highest resolution data from all three dimensions of a sample, creating a virtual sample from which minute defects and features can be detected. Resolution in the micron range and delaminations as small as 200 Angstroms are typical. Our proprietary signal processing provides the most dependable and acoustically accurate information about a sample and its internal structure. Our advanced Acoustic Impedance Polarity Detector (AIPD)™ will allow you to measure the relative phase of interface reflections (echoes) to indicate the nature of the material at the other side of an interface. In addition, a Sonoscan acoustic image, that can have more than 256 megapixels and the highest pixel density, along with our data accuracy is one of the reasons that Sonoscan is typically the last word in failure analysis issues.
And while accurate data is extremely important, making it useful for decision making is essential. Sonoscan provides advanced tools and features to turn accurate data into actionable information. A variety of analysis functions help identify defects and determine their significance. A wide range of color maps accentuate the details and features within the AMI image. And through Sonoscan’s Digital Image Analyzer (DIA)™, advanced algorithms qualify the data to help you establish automatic accept/reject criteria.
Image Quality
The image quality produced by an acoustic microscope is critically dependent upon the imaging transducer and its lens. Because performance, long term reliability and unit-to-unit consistency are so important to our customers, we have designed and we have manufactured our own models for over 15 years. This capability, entirely within Sonoscan, gives us the opportunity to optimize designs for special purposes that are not adequately covered by our 55 standard models.
The off-the-shelf transducers typically found in the marketplace can’t match Sonoscan’s unique performance and reliability. Sonoscan transducers are specifically developed for AMI analysis, deliver maximum resolution and maximum penetration at each frequency. Sonoscan offers the broadest range of standard and custom ultra-high-frequency transducers, and also provides the know-how to optimize resolution and contrast for specific applications.
Prior to shipping each transducer undergoes a matching procedure to its home system and a calibration test is performed to verify resolution and optimal performance.
Technical Leadership
Customers benefit from a staff of more than 20 dedicated and highly experienced AMI applications engineers—a pool of talent that delivers a remarkable level of knowhow, accuracy and service that is unsurpassed in the industry. And through our SonoLab® division, this expertise is available to anyone seeking assistance with failure analysis, component screening or feasibility determinations (compatibility studies). The SonoLab Division also acts as an independent third-party resource.
Sonoscan’s engineers and scientists have authored more than 300 publications in the field of Acoustic Micro Imaging. Additionally, members of our technical staff are frequent speakers at national and international symposia, seminars and exhibitions. Topics range from general electronics to composites, ceramics, polymers, failure analysis, packaging, quality control and reliability. In addition Sonoscan actively participates in many standards setting organizations as members and chairpersons.
This involvement in professional technical activities helps our customers by keeping us at the forefront of innovation and ensuring maximum responsiveness to the specific needs of each market and application.
