About The Active Spring Company
The Active Spring Company Ltd was started by our Managing Directors’ father, Harry Crane, in 1980.

The fledgling company had little in the way of machinery or equipment and was in fact set up in a small cart shed at the family home.

Since then, under the stewardship of James Crane, our current Managing Director who took over in 1999, the company has grown six fold and continues to go from strength to strength. We now occupy two purpose built factories situated on the companys’ privately owned four acre site, situated on the edge of Thaxted in Essex, approximately 7 miles East of Stansted Airport.

Over the years the company has built a reputation for quality, reliability, excellent customer service and value for money. As a result, a number of other spring manufacturers trust and rely upon us to manufacture for them items that are not within their own capabilities or for which the quantities are too large or too small.

We now have one of the most extensive wire range capabilities in Europe being capable of forming wire from 0.152 mm right up to 30 mm; manufacturing Wire Forms, Pressings, Torsion, Double Torsion, Compression, Tension and Conical springs.

Continual investment in the most sophisticated machinery available to our industry and a highly skilled workforce with over 150 years combined experience has resulted in quality levels being driven up, competitive pricing and a fast turnaround. We are able to manufacture from samples, drawings or specifications, whichever are available and/or most convenient for our customers.
