About us
The 220-hectare chemical complex in Piesteritz, a district of Lutherstadt Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt, houses not only the company’s own production facilities but also 30 other companies in Germany’s only agrochemical park with more than 1,500 employees. With an annual output of more than five million tonnes, SKW Piesteritz produces a large number of industrial chemicals as well as specialty agrochemicals. The company is not only one of the largest ammonia and fertilizer producers in Europe, but also the largest industrial natural gas consumer in Germany.
The company’s own research with more than 60 employees also includes the 170-hectare test farm in Cunnersdorf near Leipzig. An affiliated institute connects us with the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg: the Agrochemical Institute Piesteritz, short AIP. Here, doctoral candidates work on basic research projects that can not be operated at the site itself. SKW Piesteritz holds more than 100 patents and around 30% of sales are generated by innovative products.
In Piesteritz, tradition as the site of the chemical industry dates back to 1915. We still benefit from the immense know-how that has accumulated over the decades here. The Lutherstadt Wittenberg offers a significant industrial location with tradition and future. Wittenberg, but this is also the city of the Reformation, a city with UNESCO World Heritage, with a fascinating wealth of outstanding historical highlights – picturesquely situated on the Elbe.
