Undeniably, the “tool light” is an innovation engine. Germany occupies an international leading position in optical technologies and holds its own in such areas as laser manufacturing technology as the world market leader. Intensive research efforts at the intersection of science and practice have not least been supported by the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT – for more than 30 years.

We open up perspectives
With more than 540 employees and more than 19,500 m² of net floor space, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is one of the world’s largest contract research and development institutes in the field of laser development and laser application. Our core competencies include the development of new laser beam sources and components, laser measurement and testing technology as well as laser manufacturing technology. These include, for example, cutting, ablation, drilling, welding and soldering, as well as surface refinement, microfabrication and rapid manufacturing.

The Fraunhofer ILT deals with laser system technology, process monitoring and control, modeling and the entire system technology. Our range of services ranges from feasibility studies and process qualification to the customer-specific integration of laser processes into the respective production line.

Fraunhofer ILT is part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, which, with 72 institutes, more than 26,600 employees and 2.6 billion euros in research volume, is one of the most important research institutions in Germany every year.
