Founded in Paris in 1901, the group today has its principal factory in the heart of the regional technological development center of Futuroscope Park, near Poitiers.
Beginning with the manufacture of machines to produce precision optical components, the group has responded to the needs of evolving technologies and growth in other market sectors and now offers the most advanced, automatic, flexible, computer controlled machines and systems to serve the entire field of fine grinding, lapping and polishing.

These machines cover a full range of applications, and allow machining from very small parts to very big parts. Our smallest machine weight about 100 kg, the biggest 50 Tons.
All our machines generate high precision surfaces, from lapping to super-polishing according to your specifications.
You need to generated high flatness single or double side surfaces, very fine roughness, with high throughput, on material such as Metal, Glass, Ceramic, Crystals, we certainly have the right machine and process for your application.
On side of the machines, we propose a variaty of accessories, such as slurry pump, chiller, gages, tools storage, waste water tank & filters.
The two principal companies in the group, SOMOS-NANOTEC and SOMTEC, are separately responsible for machines and processes:
SOMOS-NANOTEC : Design and manufacture of machines and automated systems for high-precision surfacing and diamond machining of hard materials including glass, quartz, sapphire, crystals, metals, sintered materials, ceramics, carbides .
SOMTEC FRANCE : Development of processes and consumables, and a leading contract machining and surfacing source for intermediate and high-volumes of hard material components.
