Contabo

Our names are Michael Herpich and Michael Bölke, we are the two shareholders of Contabo GmbH.
When we founded a hosting company specializing in hosting solutions, such as web space and dedicated servers, in the spring of 2003, we were told by all sides that this was a hopeless endeavor. At the time, the market was already overcrowded with hundreds of companies of this or similar kind in Germany alone. It was impossible to compete with companies that were already established as global giants with thousands of servers and even more customers.

Within 24 months Contabo – at that time under the name of Giga-Hosting – grew against the opinions of the skeptics and pessimists to a size that let us catch up step by step even to the “unattainable” represented large companies – thanks to our customers. During the first 24 months, our offerings, related services, and in-house live service got around so fast that tens of thousands of customers worldwide rent web space and their own servers at Contabo. If we started with a single server in the data center at the time of the founders, we already see ourselves crossing the threshold of 5000 servers – and we are growing faster and faster.

In 2009, at our headquarters in Munich, we opened a new data center for server and colocation services with space for 4,000 servers to meet the increasing demand and high quality standards of our customers. Since then, our offices have been located in the same building to provide excellent support, 365 days a year (including public holidays and weekends).

At the beginning of 2013, we changed our company name. The previously used name “Giga-Hosting.biz” was replaced by the catchier name “Contabo” and internationally protected as a trademark. The name change did not change the corporate structure and – above all – the usual high service level for our customers. Since then we have been available for our German customers under Contabo.de and for our international customers under Contabo.com .

Due to the increasing demand for our hosting services, we opened a second data center location in Nuremberg in 2014, which has since offered space for another 10,000 servers on an additional 2,400 square meters of data center and office space. Of course, we also operate this data center independently, just like in Munich, and continuously optimize the infrastructure to ensure the operation is as stable and energy efficient as possible. Both Contabo data centers are staffed 365 days a year (including public holidays and weekends) by our technicians.
