New-build roller shutters made of roll-formed aluminum bars
We distinguish two types of aluminum roller shutter armor: those made from extruded aluminum profiles and those made from roll-formed aluminum rods. Extruded roller shutter bars are single-walled and double-walled. The minimum thickness of the material is 1 mm. Extruded aluminum roller shutters are more resilient, higher quality and more expensive than those made from roll-formed rods. Extruded aluminum roller shutter armor can be anodized in all common colors, or even coated in RAL and NCS in all shades.

Roll-formed aluminum roller shutters are supplied in standard quantities only in the market-known standard colors (see color chart). Almost all roll-formed aluminum roller shutter bars are filled with PU foam, which causes a large part of the stability of the bars.

Quality bars made of roll-formed aluminum are initially characterized by their strip thickness. When choosing the roller shutter armor, the architect or client should generally confirm the offered thicknesses. Here, unfortunately, the strength of the band has been greatly minimized by many manufacturers in recent years. Twenty years ago, the bars for new-build roller shutters at all manufacturers were still 0.50 mm, so today only a few roller shutter bars are delivered with the belt thicknesses required by our findings. Unfortunately, almost only 0.30 mm and below are usual.

Also, a higher density foam can improve the stability of roll formed roller shutter bars.
