The Lech steelworks are the only steelmaker in Bavaria. The electric steel plant in Meitingen was built in the 1970s and has since contributed significantly to the growth in the Augsburg region. The value chain has been continuously expanded and today ranges from raw material supply through crude steel production to bright steel.

The company, which belongs to the Max Aicher Group, produces more than 1 million tonnes of crude steel per year with around 700 employees. Since the first smelting on 19.03.1972, more than 32 million tons of steel scrap of various origins have been recycled here and processed into high-quality steel for the automotive and construction industries in a climate-friendly way. This corresponds to approximately 40 million scrap cars and thus makes a considerable contribution to sustainable resource conservation.

With a share of approx. 25% in its market segment, Lech-Stahlwerke is one of the most important suppliers of the German automotive industry and its suppliers. In quality reinforcing steel, many well-known companies in the construction industry are among the buyers.
