The Bavarian University Center for Latin America (BAYLAT) is a Bavarian-wide service facility of the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts (StMWK). BAYLAT promotes the networking of Bavarian and Latin American universities and research institutions and has the task of increasing awareness of the location of Bavaria as a center for technology and innovation as well as science and education in Latin America. BAYLAT is located at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU).
BAYLAT is responsible for the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela ,
The goals of BAYLAT are directly related to the internationalization strategy of the universities of the Free State of Bavaria. In order to fulfill these goals, BAYLAT plans and carries out its activities within the framework of the concept of science, cooperation and university diplomacy.
As a center of excellence and advice center , BAYLAT has various main areas of work:
Coordinates the programming of official delegations from and to Latin America.
promotes innovative bi-national projects in research and teaching with its start-up funding programs.
offers financial support for Bavarian and Latin American students with its own funding programs.
promotes the formation of networks and research alliances between Bavarian and Latin American universities and research institutions.
gains strategic partnerships in both regions.
offers expert advice on universities, research areas and opportunities for academic and scientific cooperation with Latin America and Bavaria.
organizes workshops on intercultural competence and lectures on Latin American countries at Bavarian universities.
promotes Bavarian universities at trade fairs in Latin America and informs about Latin American universities in Bavaria.
organizes scientific working meetings, events and specialist conferences in Latin America and Bavaria.
Latin America is an up-and-coming research region that is becoming increasingly important for Bavaria as a cooperation partner. The aim of the Bavarian University Center for Latin America (BAYLAT) is to further expand the long tradition of Bavarian-Latin American cooperation for the benefit and benefit of both partners.
