Founded in 1877, the family-owned company G.RAU GmbH & Co. KG is today a leading medium-sized company in the metalworking industry with more than 500 employees and a production area of ​​32,000 m² in 3 locations. Like no other company, G.RAU is at home in the highly complex and diverse world of metals. Currently, more than 200 different metals and metal alloys are processed and processed. As a preferred supplier of well-known companies in the fields of the electronic industry, automotive supply industry, measuring and control technology as well as medical technology, G. The G.RAU group consisting of 6 companies (among others in the USA, Costa Rica) today employs 1,300 people.

An outstanding position is occupied by the materials NITINOL, an alloy of nickel and titanium. This material is characterized by its high flexibility as well as its ability to remember a previously defined shape. Both properties are used especially in medical technology.

In 1991, G.RAU became the first company worldwide to produce the first precision tube made of NITINOL for the manufacture of medical components. Wall thicknesses of 200 – 300 m, minimum tolerances as well as the highest precision regarding surface, geometry, mechanics and temperature settings had to be guaranteed. G.RAU thus creates the basis for self-expanding components in vascular surgery, which are laser cut from the precision tube and promotes or enables the development of open surgery to keyhole, or minimally invasive surgery. G.RAU is still the world market leader and serves about 70% of the world market in this segment.

During the last 20 years, the shape memory material NiTiNOL has become the material of choice for minimally invasive surgery. Products such as dental arches, guide wires, root canal drills, stents, catheter tubes, artificial heart valves, and many others would be unthinkable without the unique properties of NiTiNOL.

The G.RAU Group has accompanied the medical market for NITINOL products since the beginning, has developed many commercially available products and is the world leader in many NITINOL products.
