With spirit of exploration, the courage to take entrepreneurial risk and the belief in their own abilities, Walter Pepperl and Ludwig Fuchs founded a small radio workshop in Mannheim in 1945. Already in 1948, the activity was expanded to the production of electronic components, which led 1958 finally to the development of the first proximity switch and the first transistor amplifier with intrinsically safe circuit.
