Professor Hubert K. Hilsdorf joined the University of Karlsruhe in 1971 from the University of Illinois. From Illinois he knew the DMS measurement method, which was already common in mining in the US as a warning signal generator on supports u. Aspiration was used.
In many cases, this method has now been used, optimized and further developed in measurement and test arrangements in the Institute of Building Materials Technology of the University of Karlsruhe.
Laboratory manager Dagobert Maisch, who later became DEW’s founder, was involved in the metrological application development of the DMS technology right from the start.
Today, DMS technology is a common measurement method in industrial weighing technology.
With this metrological background, Dagobert Maisch founded the DEW (Data Labeling Weighing Systems) in 1981.

Before completing their studies, both completed their vocational training at the DEW.
