EMS stands for Electronic Manufacturing Services and therefore describes the production service of electronic components and assemblies. This encompasses the entire contract manufacturing process – starting with the procurement of materials, through the assembly of printed circuit boards, the creation and implementation of test concepts and qualification, right through to logistics and life cycle services. If the service provider also takes on development tasks, as in the case of RAFI, the industry speaks of E 2 MS – Electronic Engineering and Manufacturing Services. In everyday parlance, however, the term EMS often already includes development work.
