Jean FAURE HERMAN, an automobile importer, was looking for a way to measure the quantities of fuel consumed by aircraft.

At the time, aviation endurance runs and record attempts (distance, speed, altitude) often failed through ignorance of the quantities of fuel consumed.

In 1925, he invented the Jean FAURE HERMAN flow meter, an oscillating piston flow meter. Airlines adopted it.The JFH flow meter was improved, with the instantaneous flow rate and total consumption readings being reported on the pilot’s instrument panel. After the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, the Boulogne Billancourt shop was moved to safety in La Ferté Bernard (Sarthe).
