THE MISSIONS OF THE METROPOLIS
The Metropole provides treatment of waste since 1972. Its missions were strengthened during the transition to urban community in 1 st January 2000 and 1 st January 2005 with the transfer of the collection of expertise.
Grenoble-Alpes Métropole is responsible for all operations related to the disposal of household and similar waste:
Waste prevention : reduction of quantities and harmfulness of waste produced.
Collection of residual waste (conventional household waste) and recyclable waste (paper / packaging and glass): door-to-door and voluntary collection.
Sorting and recovery of waste.
Management of 21 waste stations spread over the metropolitan territory.
Information and communication on the sorting and prevention of waste.
Some missions are performed live, others are delegated:
For collection, the service is mainly provided by direct management (93% of the population of the territory).
For treatment and recovery: the majority of services are delegated (sorting center and waste incineration plant) or entrusted in operation to private providers (transport, treatment and recovery of waste collected in waste disposal centers). Grenoble-Alpes Métropole resumed live management of its composting center Murianette since 1 st January 2009.
THROW LESS, SORT MORE, FACE
Throw less
Every second, 8 kg of waste is generated by all 450,000 inhabitants of the metropolis.
It is in this context that Grenoble-Alpes Métropole launched in January 2014 its Local Program for Waste Prevention (PLPD), supported by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME).
5 priority themes have been identified:
Promote eco-consumption
Limit the use of harmful products
Take action against food waste
Developing domestic composting of bio-waste and vegetable waste
Promote reuse and repair
Grenoble-Alpes Métropole therefore conducts various actions to raise residents’ awareness of these issues.
Tips and tricks, test, testimonials, agenda, news of the agglomeration, challenge … Grenoble-Alpes Métropole offers you on lessjeter.fr and on the Facebook page “Less throw, the good idea” , a wealth of information and tips for less everyday throwing.
The Metropolis has also committed in 2016 in a “Zero waste Zero Waste” , which aims to mobilize the economic actors of the territory and promote the circular economy.
