With visionary design and medical know-how to success
Success stories usually begin with courageous visions: this also applies to the Austrian baby goods manufacturer MAM. In 1976, the Viennese Peter Röhrig came up with the idea of combining outstanding design with optimal functionality and medical safety for baby products for the first time. The plastics technician developed the first MAM pacifier with a team of designers and paediatricians. Today, mothers buy over 40 million MAM baby items annually. The globally operating company is the market leader in many countries – and the world leader in iconic baby design.
In the mid-1970s, discerning parents faced an either / or decision when buying baby products: either appealing design or medically proven functionality. A combination of both worlds succeeded in 1976 the trained plastics technician Peter Röhrig. Together with scientists, physicians and designers of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, he developed a pacifier that set signs both formally and functionally – and founded the company MAM.
With constant expansion to world market player
The new pacifier was immediately a huge success for parents and babies, the international marketing of the successful idea for Röhrig the logical consequence: In 1989, the Austrian entrepreneur with a company in Great Britain took the first step towards the world market. In 1990 MAM bought the Swedish market leader “Bambino” and opened with MAM Hungaria its own assembly and packaging factory in Hungary.
