Borealis Polyolefine GmbH is part of the Borealis Group, a leading provider of innovative solutions in polyolefins, basic chemicals and plant nutrients. The location is located outside of Vienna, near the corporate headquarters and the international airport.

Polypropylene (PP) has been produced at the Schwechat location since 1961 and – since 1969 – polyethylene (PE) as raw materials for the plastics processing industry.

The Borealis plant in Schwechat is one of the most modern and important plastic production sites in Europe with an annual polyolefin capacity of around 1 million tonnes.

A total of around 550 employees work in the areas of production, health, safety & environment, maintenance, purchasing, finance & controlling, quality control, logistics, IT, human resources and law.

The main markets for Schwechat are Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, for infrastructure, advanced packaging and automotive applications.

In addition to the production facilities in Schwechat, there are also further locations in Burghausen (Germany), Piesteritz (Germany), Monza (Italy) and Linz (Austria), where the Borealis Group’s Innovation Headquarters is located.
