Metalworking and surface finishing
Metal salts have already been in use for a very long time in electroplating and metal surface treatment applications. On the one hand, they are used for coating surfaces with one metal as metal source. On the other hand, they can produce carefully targeted chemical reactions to change the surface of the metal, in preparation for downstream process operations. Metal salts are also used for pickling, burnishing and dyeing surfaces of steel and aluminum.
Metal salts are utilized to stabilize hot-dip galvanizing baths and accelerate electrochemical processes. Also the semiconductor industry requires galvanization processes for decorative coating processes of metal on metal and plastic surfaces.
Oxalates can be employed to ensure uniform carbide deposition during the weld cladding process. They may have to be chemically or physically adapted beforehand to suit our customers’ processes.
Pyrophosphates are used as solid lubricants to alter the tribological properties of metal surfaces. This is either used to produce detachable adhesive bonds or to prevent metal surfaces from “sticking” together.
Deposition processes in metalworking can frequently lead to undesirable precipitation. This can be inhibited by highly soluble citrates and tartrates. In addition, they accelerate the deposition process and ensure that other metal ions remain sufficiently stable. We also offer iron-based raw materials for production of pickling solutions (sulfates) or dyes for aluminum baths (oxalates).
