R & W PDM is a system for collecting, storing and evaluating production data in an industrial environment and supports intelligent manufacturing.

Components of the R & W PDM system
In order to capture and evaluate production data from different systems, several components are required that communicate with each other. R & W uses the now widespread Industrial Ethernet for this purpose.

R & W DBConnect
With the DBConnect devices from R & W, you bring the processing of production data directly into production. The devices capture and process the data where it originates. Capture and retrieve production data in a database directly in the automation. R & W offers three different components for accessing a database. The controllers send SQL commands directly to the database via the DBConnect devices.

Thus, the full functionality of the database can be used. The database commands are managed in the controller, the place where the data is generated. R & W Tools provides design and test of database commands. Subsequently, the commands can be converted to eg Siemens-S7 function blocks. R & W supplies suitable libraries for communication with the database. The system is optimized for the Siemens S7 family, but can also be combined with other control systems.
