About us
The PROFIBUS user organization e.V. (PNO) initiated the founding of a large, global community, which has come together under the international umbrella organization PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI). With 25 regional user organizations in all world markets, around 1,400 member companies and around 4,000 different products, PI is the largest community of interest in industrial communication technologies. Our worldwide network includes most manufacturers and users from all industries.

The technologies cover all key industrial automation markets, from factory automation through process automation to motion control and safety-related applications. PROFIBUS – the leading fieldbus -, PROFINET – the leading Ethernet standard – and IO-Link – the leading sensor / actuator communication system – are available automation technologies with future potential and enablers for automation of the “Industry 4.0” generation. Technology leadership enables our members to offer innovative and competitive products and solutions. Today, more than 56 million PROFIBUS, more than 17 million PROFINET and over 5.3 million IO-Link nodes are installed on the market worldwide (as of end of 2016). The profiles PROFIsafe, PROFIenergy and PROFIdrive complement the basic technologies.

To further technical development and promote the international enforcement of open technologies, PI has more than 50 active working groups responsible for the development, standardization and promotion of technologies. In addition, there is a global PI network of accredited test laboratories as well as training and competence centers that guarantee international quality standards. No other community of interests in the world can have such an influence or range – this makes PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link world market leaders in industrial networking.
