The Excellence Initiative of the Federal Government and the Laender, with their grants amounting to 180 million euros in the first approval phase, caused an enormous boost in the targeted development of RWTH Aachen University. The underlying future concept of the successful application for excellence has since been expanded into a long-term strategy for strengthening and profiling all areas of the university. Thus, a great dynamic unfolded, which is reflected among other things in an extensive construction activity. The most visible sign of this is the RWTH Aachen Campus, which is being developed in close cooperation with industry and will be one of the largest science parks in Europe.
