Refinery heath – full of energy for the north
With around 530 employees and 40 apprentices in three occupations and an annual turnover of 2.3 billion euros (2018), the refinery Heide GmbH is one of the largest employers in the region. We process approx. 4.5 million tons of crude oil annually on a total of 134 hectares. This crude oil produces products such as fuel oil, diesel, gasoline and aviation turbine fuel. The refinery Heide GmbH is Germany’s northernmost crude oil processor. A significant proportion of the gasoline and diesel fuel consumed in the region comes from the Heide refinery. Our jet fuel supplies almost all flights departing from Hamburg Airport. And with the heating oil supplied by us, 250,000 of the houses with oil heating between Flensburg and Hamburg can be warmed up.

Since 2010, we have been part of the international Klesch Group based in London and Geneva. With the help of this compound, we buy raw materials worldwide. The Klesch Group’s philosophy is that every business must have as much freedom as possible in order to operate successfully in its market. This independence means for us a high degree of flexibility and agility, with which we assert ourselves on the market and react precisely to customer needs.

Our mission – from crude oil to quality product
As a crude oil processing refinery – not far from the North Sea in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein – we provide all northern German states with mobility and warmth. According to the motto “full of energy for the north”, as a middle distillate refinery we also produce diesel, heating oil and aviation turbine fuel in addition to gasoline. This targeted production enables the core of our refinery, the so-called hydrocracker. With this highly complex system, we are able to optimally exploit the crude oil and improve the product variety. In addition, we supply many industrial companies of the ChemCoast Park in Brunsbüttel with our petrochemical products.

With around four million tonnes of processing capacity, we are not one of the giants of the refinery landscape. We are one of the most efficient crude oil processors in the country and are also in a leading position in European comparison. Our Nelson Index of 9.9 shows professionals the high level of complexity we operate on.

Our culture is based on security
With regard to health, work and plant safety, we have committed ourselves to always acting responsibly and exemplary with regard to these precious goods. We train and sensitize our employees regularly in all relevant safety measures and environmental aspects. This also applies to our partner company employees who work on our company premises. Our full-time factory fire brigade is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, if despite all precautions and measures taken something should happen. All our production facilities are regularly checked and maintained by external experts.
