INEOS in Cologne is the largest chemical company and the third largest industrial employer in Cologne. With 2,000 employees in five business units and an annual turnover of 2.6 billion euros, INEOS is the flagship of the INEOS Group in Cologne.
INEOS was founded in 1998 and is one of the largest chemical companies in the world. 15,000 employees in 15 divisions generate $ 42 billion in revenue each year.
As a petrochemical site, INEOS in Cologne is an important supplier of raw materials to the chemical industry. The raw material is primarily the petrol (naphtha) produced in refineries in petroleum processing. At the Cologne site, this produces raw materials that serve the chemical industry as basic building blocks for the production of plastics, rubber and fibers. In addition, they are used in solvents and detergents, paints, fertilizers and pesticides as well as in cosmetics and pharmacy.
INEOS in Cologne was founded in 1957 as a joint venture between BP and Bayer as EC Erdölchemie. In 2001, the plant became a 100 percent BP company. In April 2005, BP Cologne became the Innovene Köln. Since 16 December 2005 INEOS is the owner of INEOS in Cologne.
